My new pc did not come with any disks except a system recovery disk. My
transfer wizard won't let me pick a drive I have (like my cd-r drive) to
create a wizard disk. I am at a loss as to what to do at this point. Thanks
for any help I can get. K.C.

Export to a new directory, burn that data to a CD, copy that data to the new
machine, use F.A.S.T. to import from the copied location.

Without an actual XP installation CD, your options for running
the FAST wizard on your old computer are limited.

I take it your new computer does not have a floppy drive. One
option in this case is to use a USB flash drive. You can
usually find one that will do the job for around $15.

If at all possible, see if you can borrow a real installation
CD from a friend or family member. Put the CD in your old
computer's CD drive and select "Perform additional tasks" on
the opening screen. On the next screen, select "Transfer files
and settings".

Good luck

I had the same problem, and I got a USB flash drive. Using it in the new
computer was OK. But when I went to the old one (windows 98) the File
Transfer Wizard coud not complete "the collection". I got a screen from the
wizard, with a message saying that "an error occurred while the wizard was
starting".
Anybody, please?

I am also trying to transfer files from Windows 98 (not me or se). My cd
burner on the old computer is not reliable, so I want to use the direct cable
approach. However, I have not been able to get the file transfer wizard to
recognize the cable. I have tried usb to usb, and ethernet cable.

You need to use a crossover cable to connect the computers
through their network cards. A regular Ethernet patch cable
will not do the job.

Belkin CAT5e Crossover Patch Cable

Get your network set up first. Share resources on the
appropriate computer and then run the FAST wizard.

Good luck
