Ghost image with volume license
Posted by Eric K on September 24th, 2005

Hello,

I have run into a problem imaging Dell pc's. The pc's came with XP pro on
them, but I needed to make an image using ghost to get all of them with the
same programs installed. When I use the volume license key in the sysprep
confiuration file, after the image is pushed I am asked to enter a valid key.
So I had to get the key off of the sticker on the machine in order for it to
work.

My question is, how to I get the volume license key to work on these new
computers?

Dell said the have to send out the pc's with an OS on it.

TIA

Eric

Are you using the Volume License CD/Media?
Sounds like you are using the media that came with the machine and not the
actual volume license media.

The problem I have with that is that if it was installed using Volume
License Media - it would not accept the Dell OEM keys..

If you use VL media, you must also use VL licence keys.
