- Install issue - XP Setup cannot locate HD on new laptop
- Posted by coppermineblueskyn on May 9th, 2006
Over the weekend, I had a very odd experience by attempting to install MS
Window XP on my new laptop (HP dv8000t). I booted up from the install cd and
the setup prog stated that it could not locate a hard drive. I booted from a
windows 98 disk and fdisk and partition manager had no trouble locating the
drive. I reformatted and retried the window setup without success. Each time,
the windows setup says it cannot find a HD. I am at a complete loss as to why
the windows xp setup cannot find the drive while these other utils can. Tests
of the drive show it is fine. The windows 98 disk didn’t have any special
drivers. I am interested to know what can be done to proceed with the windows
xp installation so it will properly locate the drive.

Never seen this before. You can do onething.
Boot the notebook with win98 make paritions and then insert the XP CD and
copy complete CD to a Folder on the C drive, then run the XP setup fromt he
copied files on the HDD.
