I installed xp on an existing hard drive. the old program files are still in
tact, but xp does not list the files in the start menu. is there any way to
pull these programs into xp? i have reloaded some programs and they are
correctly installed. no other problems.

David, you will have reinstall all the old programs. The reinstalled
WinXP does not have the Registry entries and Start Menu entries that these
programs make when installing themselves
