Partitioning Question

I need to repartition the HD that is in my system. What software do you
suggest?

I'm going to move my data away from the OS and apps so my defrgs won't take
so long. Is there a rule of thumb to determine the size of the OS and apps
partition?

Is putting page space on a separate partition still a good idea? If so, how
is this done?

Thanks!

does your HDD have only one partition or several?
Possibe to do if part of hard drive is unused, unformatted, or unallocated
(using Windows).
Or Partition Magic is usually recommended.

Actually I'm working on two systems. One is already up and going and has the
entire drive allocated to the single partition, so a 3rd party tool is
necessary there. I'm wondering which software to use. Looks like True
Image, Norton Partition Magic, and Partition Commander are choices. I've
been looking at reviews, but would like the opinions of people who've really
used them.

The other system I'm rebuilding b/c I'm putting in a new drive. My friend's
system is so mucked up that the rebuild is necessary whether a new drive goes
in or not. I've read about "XP partitioning" abilities, but I've don't find
any info in Help. I'd assume I'd need to partition before the system was
built, but XP isn't there at that point, so I'm missing something.

Other pc with new HDD. XP setup will alow you to create partition size during
setup. I prefer to only create the partition that I'm installing Windows
because when I've done it ; it always creates "extended" parttions when I
usely create "primary" parttions. Only primary partitons ar bootable. that is
what Setup will create by default for windows.

Then once you have windows running. You can create addtitional parttiions
using Computer Management>Disk Management

Can also be done thru Recovery Console command prompts BUT much harder!
