- Pre-installing new sound drivers - KB835221 - MS High Def Audio
- Posted by Ross on December 9th, 2005
Has anybody else come across this?
The sound drivers for our new Dell Dimension 3100 computers include a MS
Hotfix - 835221 - the High Definition Audio Driver Package. I cannot get
these drivers to pre-install on the computers.
I've added the driver as usual and tried slipstreaming the 835221 package
according to Microsoft's instructions but am having no joy.

Thanks Johan,
I'm trying that now - if I get this to work I'll post an update here for
anybody else trying to do this.
I notice that 888111 has several versions, including one for XP SP1 and
another for XP SP2. Our pre-installation folder is running XP SP1 now but
I'm planning to slipstream SP2 into our standard installation in the next
month or so. Should I expect any problems after that upgrade, will I simply
need to apply the SP2 version of 888111 after doing that?

Sweet, 888111 works a treat.
If anybody else is struggling with this, it's easy once you have the right
files. Ignore 835221, it's out of date now. The way to do it is:
1. Slipstream 888111 into your source folder (as per KB 828930)
2. Add the sound card drivers as usual (See KB 254078)

I have seen some issues when slipstreaming pathces using the
/integrate switch. I recommend that you install them as a post-install
action (script in GuiRunOnce) when creating your master/reference
computer.
