To make a long story short, I had to reformat my hard drive this past weekend
and reinstall a clean copy of Windows XP Pro. Fortunately, I didn't lose any
files as I backup frequently.

However, after Windows XP was installed, I found that my drive was now
designated as "H" drive instead of the good old fashioned "C:" drive. That
has caused some problems moving files between home and work as well as
working with certain applications.

I went into the Computer Management Console to try and change the drive
letter of my H: drive back to C: drive just to get a message that I can't
change the drive letter of the system volume. Is there some easy way to get
around this and make the change. I guess I could install Windows XP on an
external USB drive and try to boot from there and then change my H: drive but
this seems like a cumbersome approach to use.

I am also not sure that this would solve the problem since all the registry
entries on my H: drive would still refer to H: drive even through I renamed
the hard drive back to "C: drive".

Am I basically stuck with backing up my drive, reformatting and reinstalling
Windows making sure the partion is set as "C: drive" and then reinstalling
all the software or can I somehow less painfully make the switch from H:
drive to C: drive?
