Sysprep and Installed Programs Usernames and other Questions
Posted by Ryan on October 5th, 2005

I've been using Sysprep to prepare XP desktops for imaging after
installing various applications and settings. One issue that has been
bothering me is the inability to completely remove traces of the
previous installation. For example, the Computer Name pre-sysprep
shows up in the Registry post-sysprep. Also, many apps require a User
Name when installing and those are also carried over into the new
installation. Is it a problem to just go into regedit and remove the
entries for the various usernames?

Also while I'm here, I've been having problems with printers not
installing depending on which user I first log in with. Using a Domain
Admin account, the printers are automatically installed upon first
logging in. However, using normal user accounts, the printers are not
installed. I've gone and changed the permissions for rundll32 to allow
all users to use it but they are still not installing. Is this some
other group policy that might be implmented?

Thanks.
