- Using WDS to Deploy WinXP 32bit to x64 Systems
- Posted by Ben on February 28th, 2008
Hi,
We're using a mixture of RIS and WDS to deploy our clients. One good feature
of RIS was that even if it detected a 64 bit system, it would give you the
choice of deploying a 64 bit or 32 bit O/S. However, using WDS, it seems
that if it detects a 64 bit system, it only offers you the choice of
installing 64 bit O/Ss. This is a bit of a pain, as we run some training
courses that are WinXP 32 bit images, captured using WDS, but then when we
try to clone those images back onto the same x64 architecture machines they
were captured from, it don't offer the image as a choice, because its Win XP
32-bit.
Is there anyway to get WDS to allow you to chose which architecture type you
want to install on 64-bit systems?
Thanks in advance
Ben

Don't worry, have solved this!
Previously I had run: wdsutil /set-server /architecturediscovery -yes
When having problems getting x64 clients to be discovered, but I hadn't run:
wdsutil /set-server /defaultx86x64imagetype:both
Just ran it, and now x64 clients are offered the choice of booting both x86
& x64.
