what are the machine keys used for under a"c:\documents and settings\All
Users\Application
they seem to different owners, some apparently none of the signon uses have
access (owner field is blank due security). I guess I can take ownership as
administrator but that will reset the permission. what can I do
I am trying transfer files to new PC and I got stopped.. DO I really need
them. seems to me they are used by setups. Some of them happened to be
around security updates

jg,
be careful with these, because they may be connected to the
activation of the operating system. Removing them may require
reactivation of the operating system, possibly of Office, etc.
I don't see why taking ownership should inhibit their normal
use. The main disadvantage is that you can no longer check
whether somebody or something else has misused them by first
taking ownership, at least not if that something was malware
running in your account.

Do I have to transfer all of them to my new PC?? The windows and some
software will need to re-activate anyways upon significant system change.

jg,
I don't know, probably not, for the reason you already
mentioned. However, since nobody can tell you for sure, why not
copy them over and then let some of them be changed when you
reactivate? I don't think that can hurt.

I tired copying but some of them refused to be copied. I think netback does
the same thing
Oh well. We see what happens in the new PC
