Windoes XP Home to Windows XP pro upgrade
Posted by epsilon_9 on November 22nd, 2005

I recently downloaded a valid copy of win xp pro SP2 from an msdn academic
alliance partner through my university with a corresponding key and decided
to use it and upgrade win xp home edition on my Dell inspiron 5160. The
upgrade started smoothly. I entered the key and the upgrade proceeded, the
laptop shutdown started up again and during install in the "insatlling" phase
the screen went dark and setup hung at about 34 mins. to completion while
"installing device drivers". I restarted the system and it keeps giving the
message that "setup is retsarting....." and keeps hanging at the same stage,
at about 34 mins. to complete installation. I will be grateful if i can get
some assistance as I can't seem to revert back to home edition and would
rather run the upgrade to completion without having to do a fresh install. I
picked up a hint to disable my antivirus software but can't achieve that now
as i keep getting into setup when i restart the system. Will be grateful for
any assistance
