- Windows Vista to Win XP Pro issues again...
- Posted by dkhyland on December 21st, 2007
Summary: I upgraded an HP dv1000 laptop from Win XP Pro SP2 to Vista because
I had to "jump the gun" like an idiot which now I am paying the price. I now
have 2 discs from HP that I ordered per the serial # of my laptop, 1) Win XP
Pro SP2 OS and 2) Application and Driver Recovery DVD. When I put in the Win
XP disc, it states that it "cannot continue due to compatibility issues". I
am aware that there will be a significant # of updates to follow. Any advice
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Difficult to say for sure, but check that the SATA drives are working in
'compatibility' or 'legacy' mode. This solves most such issues. The setting
is in the BIOS (F2 at startup)

I assume you are booting from the recovery disks and not trying to start
from within Vista? If not that is what you need to do.

I have been trying from within Vista and realize that now. How do I boot
"outside" of Vista and I assume to reboot directly from the CD, correct? I am
a novice at this as you can tell, sorry. I need step-by-step directions.
