- Windows XP

I installed WinXP pro on an old Compaq Presario 5150. After installing I
found the C: drive (8Gb) was too small for the various profiles and
information I had to put on the system. I went out and purchased a 120Gb
drive and installed it in place of the 8Gb drive. I tried reinstalling WinXP
from the original CD's again but it freezes partway through the process with
strange half wiped screens and extremely slow response. It would appear the
drive is the problem but both WinXP and the Compaq should handle the drive.
Any ideas?

Have you updated the Compaq's BIOS? It may be that the BIOS does not handle
the larger HD properly.

A 5150 will very likely not support a 120GB drive, even with a BIOS update,
it's just too old. You can try an add on hard drive controller.
