- Windows XP Media Edition, Disc Cleanup

Everytime I start my computer, disc cleanup runs. It takes up to an hour to
complete. I cannot find where it is set to run at every start up.

You mean "CHKDSK" starts at pc start-up,disk cleanup runs in windows
explorer...Either way,read kb831426

You are correct, CHKDSK. I read kb831426, thanks. There are 3 methods
mentioned to correct. First, I confirmed that CHKDSK was not scheduled. In
the second step, I found
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session
Manager\BootExecute, except there was no BootExecute option in Session
Manager. Therefore, I could not modify. Step 3 is to run CHKDSK which runs
each time I boot up.
