Best Practices to migrate or upgrade SBS 4.5 to Win 2K3 Standard Server
Posted by CP on June 8th, 2004

Is there a possibility to do it or I'm looking for trouble
We're trying to get away from SBS because we don't want every services in one box.
Could anyone give me any hints, white paper, tips, etc please

Thanks!

As you don't have an AD IN SBS4.5 and will have ( presumably) in Win2003
just Output the Exchange Data to .pst Files (use exmerge for Client
files and Do it from Outlook for Public Folders.) Backup your Data and
Databases, then restore these to the appropriate locations when you've
setup your new Domain.

Thanks for the quick respond Henry
So you're saying that joining the Exchange 2003 to the Exchange 5.5 organization is not recommended?
And as far as the users and groups, I have to re-create all of them?

Thanks

You could follow the Migration paper (use the ADMT) without the SBServer
Setup, just your Win 2003 Server.
