If I understand your question correctly
You want to be able to use the email client that comes with Lotus SmartSuite to connect to the Exchange Server. If the Lotus email client is capable of connecting as a Pop3 client to a Pop3 Server and you enable the Pop3 protocol on Exchange it will work
However you get a version of Outlook with Small Business Server without having to purchase MS Office. Using Outlook will give you much greater capability, such as sharing calendar information, contacts etc.
