Multiple DC's in Domain using SBS2003
Posted by James Mackinnon on February 4th, 2004

Good day

I am looking at doing a client install of Small business
server 2003 for a client. They will have 2 offices and
both will be using 1 SBS2003 server for ISA and their DC.

I need to have both DC's in the same domain. I do one of
them up following the SBS setup wizard (really controlled
setup) and on the second, I try to do the same and it
says that their is already a dns zone with that name and
I have to create it with a different zone.

I know if I do this, I will end up with 2 Domains, I
don't want this, so I then went to start | run and typed
DCPromo, and it launched, I ran through the setup and
added the SBS server into the Domain that already has SBS
setup.. Problem then is that I can't complete the SBS
setup and I would figure this is needed as when I try to
launch the license tool on the second DC (one I used
DCPromo) it tells me to use the licensing tool by SBS,
which does not exist because the Setup was not done using
the SBS wizard.

To finish this up, how can I have 2 SBS 2003 servers in
the same domain?

Thanks for any Advice on this. If possible, Email me the
reply.

Ignore this posting.. After further checking, it is not
permitted to have more then 1 SBS2003 in the same domain,
thus this posting is pointless

However you can have additional DCs in SBS so if you have the right link between locations, no problem
