- roaming profile

Hi all,
[SBS 2000 server]
A user in our company had worked offline at home from his laptop last night. He had created folders under his My Documents folder and copied files (mp3, doc, xls, and jpg) files onto those newly created folders. He also had worked on some of those copied over files.
After he came back to our office next day, he logged on to our server as normal. He then opened up one of those newly created folders but found all of the files he had copied over to his laptop in last night was gone. Only the folders was left intact. He also found out those files he had worked on last night was still there.
We suspected it has something to do with synchronisation of profile between his laptop and our server. It looked like the sync had removed those files that was copied over to his laptop only and kept those that had been changed.
Could anyone help me solve this problem?
TIA,
el

Are you using "Offline Files"?
These can be troublesome, we had that many problems that in the end we just
decided to use a script that runs 3 times a day, plus a manual one, to
replicate files.

No Steve. He was actually just started his job with us a day ago and tried
to put his usual stuff onto the new laptop to make it more user-friendly to
himself.
I actually never came across/heard this problem before. We believed when
the server did the sync, it thought those copied over files (with old file
date) are old files that should not existed after sync, so it deleted them.
Is it safe to copy/move files onto My Documents folder while working away
from the network?

In general Roaming Profiles are troublesome.
A Laptop cannot be setup to sycn with more than one computer (without
running into problems). He must choose to sync at home or at work and
not both.
A Roaming Profile with Off Line Syncing is even more troublesome than
just a roaming profile.
Good luck trying to figure it out because Microsoft has never figured
it out. Kind of like the Binders in MS Office.
We also generally use BATCH files for copying or backing up files
without any problems.
