- Roaming profile over LAn to LAN VPN
- Posted by mark on June 20th, 2006
I wander if you could help me on this issue we been having.
The issues is with remote site and group polices and roaming profiles.
All is fine on the local LAN, the remote sites are connected to Head office
via a LAN to LAN VPN using draytek 2800g router at each location. Now we can
login and use there exchange mailbox and talk to server and network, but
CANNOT use roaming profiles or group polices. I have spoken to draytek and
they say the LAN to LAN vpn is fine.
Have created new ou and new user along with new profile folder , have
assigned the correct permissions . I login with user and it logs in fine can
talk to network use intranet exchange ect. But when check profile folder on
server after logged out it is blank. I also looged in and created a few
folder on desktop and logged out but the folders I created are not written
back to server.
I would be grateful if you could help me in any way regarding this issue.
The guys at draytek seem to think its something on the server.
Many Thanks

It is probably a problem with slow link detection, basically as VPNs are
much slower (generally) than a network connection windows does not process
group policy if it detects as slow link.
Have a look at http://support.microsoft.com/?id=227260
You might find that Roaming profiles canes your VPN link though. You might
be better looking at offline folders and redirection instead.
