Hi:

This group is for older versions of SBS. You might get more help in the SBS
2003 specific news group:

news.microsoft.com - microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs

When you reply, or post there, please describe your configuration in regards
to:

How many nics in the SBS
What is the ip setup of each
What is each attached to, if two nics
What devices provide DHCP and DNS for your network

it would help if you posted the results of the command ipconfig /all >
C:\iptest.txt

not necessary to change anything, but you could alter the names if you see
fit.

Service Pack 1 for Windows Small Business Server 2003, Premium Edition
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...eadme_prem.htm

----------------------------------
After you have installed Windows SBS SP1 and you try to install ISA Server
2004, you receive the error message, "The wizard cannot install ISA Server
2004 because the server is not running the correct operating system. To
correct this problem, install Windows Small Business Server 2003 with
Service Pack 1, and then restart this wizard."

This error message occurs if SP1 for Windows SBS 2003 has not been installed
on the server. ISA Server 2004 must be installed on a server that is running
Windows SBS 2003 with SP1.

If you receive the error message after you install SP1 for Windows SBS 2003,
the service pack may not be installed correctly.

To resolve this issue, install the service pack again, and then run ISA
Server 2004 Setup again.

Hi Merv

The error says nothing about the correct operating system.
This is a brand new Dell PE1950 with brand new CDs and I have applied all
updates, so the server is bang up to date.

I will install SBS SP1 and get back to you

Thanks for your help

Graham

CSS newsgroups are essentially shut until Sunday night/Monday morning. You
can probably get this resoved in the next couple of hours in the group I
have you.

Hi Merv

Well, I installed all pre-requisites (most already installed) and then SP1.

Exactly the same error

Any other ideas?

Graham

The group Larry points to _is_ the managed group. AFAIK this one ain't (it's
for a dead product, SBS4.x, for starters).

You might be in luck though

Hi Graham,

Your error sounds a lot like the one Amy Babinchak mentions in the first
part of the article on this page of her blog...

ISA2004 Installation Fails during SBS 2003 SP1 Install

Hi Merv

Yes I saw that one. All the performance counters are showing with friendly
descriptions. So I didn't run the command. Maybe I'll try running it
anyway?...

Any other ideas?

Graham

Thanks SG

I'll give that a go and let you know what happens.

I'll also have a look at the other newsgroup, maybe I'm starting from the
wrong place?

Hi SG

I tried the solution from Bradley's blog but no good.

ISA 2004 install fails when the wizard proceeds to install MSDE 2000 SP4
with a message about "if you are upgrading from ISA 2000..." which I am not
(this is a brand new install of SBS2003Premium and I have already installed
SQL 2005 SP2 of course).

Any other ideas?

Regards
Graham
