- SBS 2003 setup thinks I have 4 processors
- Posted by Bruce on January 16th, 2004
Am trying to set up SBS2003 on a new Gateway 960x with twin Zeon processors
but I get a warning during the setup that I have more then 2 processors. If
I call up the Windows Task Manager window the "performance" tab shows 4
views (processors). Any ideas???

In all likelihood your processors have Hyperthreading technology which appears as two processors instead of one.
You can ignore the warning or if you are truly concerned you can turn off the hyperthreading

HI,
This is due to your server having hyperthreading enabled.
You can ignore the warning and sbs2003 supports hyperthreading up to two
physical processors=4 hyperthreading.

I have exactly the same situation, as already mentioned, due to
hyperthreading.

I appear to have same on a box I fiddle with... When I saw that Windows
saw '4' processors, I put it down to the old 'up to four' from NT. A wry
smile, and ignored it.. If so, I will have to hang my head in shame
thinking MS would have got it wrong! ;-)

it is also true on sbs2000 / win2000 / xp /2003 servers.
A cpu using hyperthreading will always show 2 processors per processor
