- SBS Sharepoint vrs Outlook 03 & 07
- Posted by Bucky on March 3rd, 2008
I have a customer that is using sbs 2003
He would like to have a common area where he could share a calander,
contacts and some documents. Calendar and contacts for his 6 employees and
also would like to have the public be able to access a few document. Now I
know he can share contacts and calander appointments in outllook, but I'm
wondering if sharepoint might not be a better solution for him, I have not
worked with sharepoint to speak of. Any reason for or against would be
appreciated
They have a 3rd party now hosting a simple web site and I'm wondering if
share point that comes with sbs 2003 might not be what he really is looking
for..... I've heard it said that you don't want to use sharepoint on the same
server running sbs 2003, but if he only plans on sharing a few documents,
calander and contacts wouldn't that make sharepoint worth looking into?
Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated

Outlook and Exchange is still the best solution for your employees to share
contacts and calendars, as not only can you do it internally within the
network, but with OWA you have access on the road from any web browser.
As to shared documents, why not give Sharepoint a try. it's already built
in! Whoever told you that Sharepoint shouldn't be on the SBS server doesn't
know SBS.
