Setting up a LAN and printer
Posted by Scott on May 4th, 2007

I apologize if this is not the correct forum. Here is my problem. I have my
ISP connected to a CISCO 1700 series router (cat5) which in turn feeds a
Catalyst 2900 switch which connects to multiple laptops/desktops via cat5
cables. One of the cat5 cable connections out of the 2900 is connected to a
D-Link D-524 wireless router which in turn is connected to a desktop computer
via cat5 cable. The desktop is connected to a Brother printer via a USB
printer cable (so we all can print via the LAN). The D-Link also connects to
the printer via a cat5 cable. So if your wireless (i.e. a laptop) you can
print also. However I cannot get the printer to print via the LAN or Wireless
from any computer. I believe the IP addresses are set correctly but maybe
someone can give me some pointers on what to check. Any help would be
appreciated. Scott

You may get some folks who will respond to this but this newsgroup is for
users of an older version of Microsoft's Small Business Server
I personally think you have too many network segments here

Why can't the printer simply connect to the switch via cat 5 OR
Have the desktop computer share the printer via the USB cable

Where are the computers that are connecting to the wireless getting their IP
address from
Can the wirelesss laptops ping the printer by IP?

The IP addresses are assigned to each computer. Only the last numbers are
different i.e. 106, 107, 110 etc. I will connect the printer via a cat5 to
the switch and try it. Maybe the printer can't be fed through the wireless
box. It's cat5 in, cat5 out but I'm no guru when it comes to this stuff. I'll
let you know. Thanks, Scott
