- Unable to Configure Passive PORT FTP Correctly
- Posted by Randy Chow on January 1st, 2004
I configured IIS on SBS 2003 with WWW and FTP. Users can logon to the
Default FTP but not any new FTP sites I create to use PORTS. For example
both Default and New FTP is set to use 192.168.0.7 and PORT 21 and 35
respectively. Same home directory is used for both FTP, and no conflicts
occur. Administrator can login on Default FTP and other users can do so as
well, but when I try the new Passive FTP site both admin and users fail. I
set the port on the new ftp site to 35, but it doesn't seem to matter which
port I use. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Figured out the problem. My server is of course a Domain Controller. The
tech articles say that you can use 'LocalUser' for local accounts on the
server and not specifying if it is a domain or not. So I used 'LocalUser'
folder, and not to any surprise it didn't work. So, I tried to used the
domain name as the folder name. This time it works. For instance something
like DOMAIN\Username in the FTP root. The only problem is that I wish
Microsoft would actually make something that is useful. Sure if users are
directed to their folder is great. But, now I have to move all my websites
to the FTP folder, as I don't want other users/clients accessing the files.
Thanks for your help.
