upgrade / Migration to sbs2003
Posted by Andrew Ortman on February 16th, 2004

All documentation indicates I need to migrate to sbs2003. My question is this, If I migrate to SBS2003 on a new (inxepenxsive server), once complete, can I then move (migrate?)it all back to the original server?

We only have about 20 users, currently running SBS 4.5 on a HP Netserver E60 dual processor 450 Mz, with 1 Gig ram
we also have a Netserver E45 runnint NT4 as a BDC & file server which is staying in the domain

Andrew, I'm not an expert at this migration by any measure, as I'm in the
middle of my first one even as we speak. The migration doesn't remove
anything from the original "source" server, so in a pinch you can move back
to it by having your client machines re-join the old domain.

You might have to update the shared folders, and export any new mail to PSTs
first, but your source server should still be serviceable after the
migration.

If you get stuck, post in the microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs group, as
it gets much more traffic and you get answers faster. You can also copy
your questions to me at

Good luck!
