- XP / SP2 on SBS 4.5 client update report / possible problem with proxy client unsolved
- Posted by simon on September 3rd, 2004
Hi all
Some days ago I asked about problems with XP / SP 2 updates on Win SBS 4.5
client machines. I tested the update on a test machine by myself now.
Everything went quite smoothly, even so the update took a loooong time on
elder client with P-III processor.
Solved issues:
1) I have Symantec Corp. 9.0 on clients and server. Client administration
was broken after the update due to cloesed management ports (2967/UDP). ->
solution: followed the instruction on Symantec support page and opend some
ports.
2) Windowsupdate was broken on one client, even so I added
http:*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com to trusted server site list. I got an
error code "0x8024402C.". On the german and english troubleshoot page there
was kno solution for this error code. After seraching for some time, I found
an thread in the newsgroup microsoft.public.windowsupdate with a possible
solution. I downloaded isutl.cab like instructed and extracted the ictl.cat
file of version 4 to the windowsupdate folder. After going back the
windowsupdate-page, this started the download of V5.
Unsolved issue:
3) When I open an webpage with Internet Explorer 6.0, the startup is very,
very slow. In the status bar there is an indication, that the system is
searching the proxy. Does anybody have the same problem with proxy client on
sbs 4.5? Is this a known issue?
Thank's for any hints for solving the problem.
Regards
Simon

Is the firewall turned on on the workstations?
Is that check box "Automatically detect settings" checked under lan connections?

Hi Cris
Sorry for answering late, I was out of office last week...
a) Yes, the firewall of the SP2 clients are turned on (with some exceptions defined for programs and ports needed)
b) As far as "automatic detection settings" are concerned, I am not sure whether I do understand you right...
In the network settings, TCP/IP protocol, the setting is "automatic delivery of IP address" and "DNS-address"
In the network setting of Internet Explorer, connection setting, setting is "use proxy for LAN" and "Don't use proxy for local addresses"
What setting are you referring to?
Thanks for your help
Simon
