- Automatically running a program at a specified time, then shuttingit down at a later time
- Posted by Pete on March 21st, 2005
I have an internet account with a fixed limit on how much I can download
per month, after which I have to pay by the megabyte. However, my ISP
discounts downloads between midnight and 8am by 75% - that is, if I
download 100 megs, only 25 megs is counted on my account during those times.
To take advantage of this discount, I'd like to postpone my larger
downloads until this discounted time. So, I'm looking for a freeware
program that can start a program like Shareaza, Azureus, or WinMX (or in
fact just about any program) at a few minutes after midnight, and shut
down the program a few minutes before 8am.
Does anyone have any suggestions for such a program?
Thanks, Peter

If you are on Win2k, (and probably any other Windows), just use the task
scheduler and on the settings tab check the box that says sotp the task
after x hours and x minutes. HTH.

I checked the web page, but it appears to me that this program is for
creating batch files. I can't see anything there that suggests that it
can run and terminate programs based on a user defined schedule.

Thanks, Rili, but the web page doesn't say that this program can also
shut down a program.

Peter,
I may be doing this the hard way but what I do is use Windows built-in
scheduler to start whatever program I'm trying to run, then create an
"end process" batch for that program in Batchrun. Then I use the
scheduler to run the batchfile to end the process whenever I want that to
happen.
It may be convoluted but it works like a charm.
