- [CLIPNAME] 64-bit version for Windows Vista 64-bit now available
- Posted by Patrick Philippot on April 18th, 2007
Hi,
A 64-bit version of the popular ClipName free utility is now availabale.
What is ClipName?
Very often, you need to pass the full pathname of a file as a parameter to
another program and you have to type it entirely (the Copy command in the
context menu copies the file itself, not its name). How frustrating! The
file is appearing in the right pane of Windows Explorer and you can't copy
its name.
ClipName is a shell extension for Windows Explorer allowing to copy the name
of a file to the clipboard. Just right-click the file in the Explorer and
select one of the available Clipname Copy commands. You can also copy
multiple names/paths at once in various formats. Folder names as well as UNC
and network share names can also be copied.

How interesting....I like Micro4oft.

Hi,
As many Windows bashers, you are just demonstrating your ignorance of the
Windows operating system. ClipName, like any shell menu extension can be
used with the keyboard only. Context menu key, then use the arrow keys.
I don't understand. Could you elaborate a little?
This is amazing. If you prefer Linux, just use it and leave the Windows
users alone. Why do you feel obliged to jump in and bash each time you see
the words Microsoft or Windows? This is pathetic (or rather, pathologic).
Keep cool. Enjoy your Linux OS and peacefully let the Windows users do the
same.
Please note: Microsoft MVP doesn't mean that I'm a microsoftee, if this can
give you some relief.
Cheers.

an excellent clipboard extender, which I still use, I still have some of
your helpful responses to my questions from back then.
I use ver 1.3, that was the last free version. Is there any thoughts that
the later revision will have a free version?

Hello Mike,
Many of the authors that have written the PC Mag free utilities have left
when PC Mag decided to change their policy about the distribution of these
programs. I'm not the author of ClipTrak but I maintained this code because
the author was no longer working for PC Mag.
Since then, I no longer have any business relationship with PC Mag. Since
the utilities were owned by PC Mag, I'm not even allowed to distribute
original or modified versions of the utilities I have written. So I can't
give you any information about the future of the utilities. My advice is to
ask PC Mag directly by using the support forum.
By the way, I was also using ClipTrak and another separate utility which
allowed me to share the current clip over the local network. I'm now using a
single utility that combines both features: Clipboard Recorder
(http://www.lw-works.com/). It's not free but rather cheap.
Best regards.

So go away, don't write about Vista. That OS will never live, it's
useless to jump in, it's FULL OF CRAP.
