- Close all windows applications
- Posted by L.D. on October 17th, 2005
Wanted freeware to close all windows applications. I want this so when I
go to install a program and I get the message to close all running
applications, I can just click and do it. If not available, how do I
know what all is running and would this also mean to close you browser
and other small items like the clock, sound volume, etc.

How about, for example, I have a little freeware program called "Tiny
Spell". It is always working and right now if I misspell a word it tells
me. In task manager in the applications tab, that isn't listed at all,
running or otherwise. Should "Tiny Spell" be closed when I install
something? Why doesn't it show it in task manager?

To tell you the truth, I leave my startup programs running and even
sometimes leave other programs running. I use win xp, it might make a
difference if you have anything older
I don't have any issues when installing other programs
Only if I'm installing windows updates do I close everything, but even
then they ask to reboot your computer

I'm running XP home. A couple times I haven't closed everything because
of the hassle and as far as I know it didn't hurt anything.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. I never bother closing apps down when
installing new stuff. I must have installed hundreds of apps like that
without ever getting any issues.

Hello, L.D.!

Enditall2?
DESCRIPTION:
Install utilities usually tell you to shut down all other tasks while
they're operating. Other programs demand so much of your system's
computing power that any concurrently running tasks will impact their
performance. On today's powerful systems, you easily can have a dozen or
more programs loaded at any given time. Shutting them down manually is
tedious and time-consuming.
EndItAll 2 lists all the programs running on your system, and lets you
decide which ones to close down. The processes necessary for basic
system operation are protected from termination. From the remaining
processes, you can choose which to close, which to kill (close down
forcibly), and which to protect. Once you know which files you want to
shut down, you can configure EndItAll for automatic action via script or
batch file. This is useful for backups and defrags during off-hours.
Options let you block power management and the screen saver during
operation.
