- ddi file extension?
- Posted by mmh on April 17th, 2008
I came across a fabulous site full of abandonware - old versions of
Excel, Word, Ami Pro, etc.
http://www.vetusware.com/.
I downloaded a statistical package, apparently old SAS or SPSS programs,
But the installation package included files with ddi extensions. I
can't find any satisfactory instructions on how to deal with such files.
Anyone know how I open ddi files?
TIA

Being old versions doesn't make them abandoned. They are proliferating
pirated software. Oh, yes, a ukranian site that hides behind an
anonymizing registrar is really to be trusted, uh huh.
So that cabin that you bought and paid for is up for grabs simply
because you haven't used it in several years, huh? Or that car sitting
in the car port that you have driven in a year? What's in your house
that is ours now because you, ahem, "abandoned" it? Those 2x4's that
are holding up your house are ours, too, because you used them to build
something that you now use but haven't put a nail in them for several
years, right?
Microsoft still owns all versions, old and new, of the Works, Word,
MS-DOS, Office, Windows, and all other Microsoft programs listed there.
Corel owns all the WordPerfect stuff. There might be some companies
that don't exist anymore for their software listed there but do you know
that they didn't sell off their software before they went out of
business and now someone else's owns it? They don't need to support or
sell it for it to remain their property.

The .ddi extension belongs to a commercial DOS app called diskduplicator
and .ddi files are images of diskettes, could be for 3.5" or 5.25" drives.
AFAIK the company is long gone. There is some info about three quarters
down this page.

You would be better off asking the same question on one of the DOS ng's
possibly a.b.ibm-pc.old

They look to be this type of file according to:

DDI DiskDupe Image
DDI Disk Doubler Image
That looks like a commercial program to me...
