See the A.C.F alternative FAQ at http://stalkingsheep.co.uk/antifaq.htm
In an unmoderated NG you can control what you read and what you write.
That's all you can control.

Pixort, www.pixort.com, for sorting.
Pixvue, www.pixvue.com, for editing EXIF-info and adding embedded keywords
to pictures.
Picasa, www.picasa.com, for editing and cataloguing.
Both Pixvue and Picasa can be used to search for specific EXIF-data or
keywords.

I have used Picassa but recently deleted it when I found the secret
stash of database information had grown to 23Mb on my hard drive.
This was *not* in the program folder.
Of course it writes invisible files to folders, so I had quite a time
removing them .
Again a small dos app to the rescue.
sweep attrib -h picasa.ini etc.

The Vision Egg is a high level interface between Python and OpenGL. In addition to
methods for automatic generation of traditional visual stimuli such as sinusoidal
gratings and random dot patterns, it has a number of functions for moving numeric
data, images, movies, text, and 3D objects to and from your video card and allowing
use of some of its features like perspective distortion. Therefore, it is also useful
for anyone wishing to make use of the features of today's graphics cards.
a.. Perform experiments using an inexpensive PC and standard consumer graphics
card
b.. Perform experiments using a graphics workstation if special features needed
c.. Data acquisition and other realtime hardware control capabilities useful in
electrophysiology and fMRI experiments, including gaze-contingent stimuli
d.. Dynamically generated stimuli can be changed in realtime via software or
external hardware
e.. Produce traditional stimuli to replace legacy systems
f.. Produce stimuli not possible using other hardware
g.. Demo programs to get you started right away
h.. Run stimuli on your laptop - great for talks
i.. Free, open-source software
By harnessing the incredible power of today's consumer graphics cards, producing
visual stimuli of research quality now requires no specialized hardware beyond a
relatively recent computer and graphics card.
Based on open standards, it runs on anything from cheap PCs to expensive special
hardware for special needs. For example, running on some platforms, such as SGI
workstations, the Vision Egg has a 10-bit luminance dynamic range (both pixel depth
and DAC) and precise frame-by-frame control.

EGG - Easy Gallery Generator
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tirain/egg/index.htm
EGG is a freeware gallery generating program
The basic idea of this program is to take some picture files,
and build a gallery suitable for uploading to the web.
The gallery consists of a main page which shows "thumbnails"
(smaller versions) of the original pictures, and a page for each
individual picture. Clicking on a thumbnail in a web browser
brings up the individual page which has links to the next
picture, previous picture and back to the main thumbnail page.
