GCS MagMap freeware now on SourceForge
Posted by battles@mailinator.com on April 15th, 2008

Gulf Coastal Software freeware program 'MagMap' has been placed out on
SourceForge.

MagMap is a computer magnetic map program. It was designed for
companies that need to keep track of the locations of large equipment
inventories throughout a country or region. MagMap can also be used as
an information board of any kind.

"Operating System : WinXP"

I installed the program on my Win XP system and about all it will do is
shut itself off. The first thing I tried was the preferences button.
That turns out to be THE starting point. All that does here is minimize
the program to the tray, where it immediately shuts down.

I'm wondering if there's something "special" about my computer. Would
someone else like to give it a try and report back?

Notes: the app does not use the registry. The uninstall file in in the
program folder (there's no shortcut in the start menu).

I have XP SP2 and gave it a quick look.
It seems to be working fine for me, including Preferences, Help file, etc.
You can uninstall it using the "GCS MagMap 3.005" entry in Add/Remove
Programs.
Maybe try downloading it again.

That seemed like a good idea. Initially SourceForge was closed for
maintenance but eventually I was able to download the file again from
the same server as the first DL, then from a different server - all
files had identical checksums. Tried reinstalling one more time, no joy.

BUT!!! I then tried Universal Extractor and that worked. I can get
to the preferences now (haven't done any more than that yet. Dunno why
the install routine didn't work for me - another mystery. . .

Thanks for your help Alan - without your assurance that it *could* be
done I might not have persevered.
