Hide or show desktop icons
Posted by Maris V. Lidaka Sr. on January 10th, 2004

The subject says it all - a one-click program to hide my desktop icons when
I want, and then turn them back on when I want, for Windows XP - I have Hide
Me, but it's for Win95 and Win98 and does not appear to be on the web any
more.

Maris

P.S. Where are the archives for this group?

Are you saying that "Hide desktop icons" is no longer a right click option
in XP?

In ME it's there if you right click the desktop. Handy little bugger, too.

Posted by Maris V. Lidaka Sr. on January 10th, 2004

By gosh, it's there! But (now having tried it) I get a colorful countryside
scene as a substitute desktop, which I also don't want - I want black, as
the reason for hiding the icons is to calibrate my monitor.

Thanks for the info, though. But for me HideIcons is easier than trying to
track down XP's substitute desktop.

You set the wallpaper in Control Panel>Display>Background (at least you do
in 9x)

Select "none" for the desktop, then click on "Appearance" and select a
scheme that gives you a black desktop. The "High Contrast" schemes give you
that in 9x.

You can try this one, ToggleDeskIcons, just make sure the shortcut you
make is not on the desktop. I put it down by the start button.
