"I don't care (if I get booed). I don't know any of those people. As long as my kids tell me that they love me, I'm fine. My motto is, when people talk about me, I say, 'Who are they? They're not God.' If God was out there booing me, I'd be upset."

Funny spam subject line. I wonder if they also send spam to
non-human addresses.

Kodak is one of the world's largest producers of film, photograpic

Would you like to share your suspicions?

Insert witty comment here.

Thanks for that explanation.

I was concerned that in light of SONY's foray into spyware and rootkits,
that the OP knew something detrimental about KODAK.

Oh - I hadn't fully considered that! That'd be just what we need, a
flurry of rootkitting software from 'reputable' vendors! Talk about a
nightmare scenario (w/o getting into a whole discussion of what the
definition of rootkit *is*!! :-) ).

The program came with my computer. Shortly after I installed it, Spybot
S&D detected Backweb on my system. When I saw that it had been installed

Looks like they CTA within their EULA:
<quote>
7. Software Features. The Software contains features that enable
Kodak, via the internet, to notify you of available software upgrades,
promotions, products and services in which you may be interested; to
update instructional and marketing content in the Software; and to
collect non-personally identifiable usage data. You agree that Kodak
may utilize these features to provide such notices and updates, and to
collect such data, unless you have elected to deactivate the features in
the Software. For information on how to deactivate one or more of these
features, refer to the help file or the README file.
</quote>

This is from the latest version 5.xxx. (I didn't go through with the
install!)

This, from backweb's site:
http://www.backweb.com/customers/kodak.cfm
<quote>
"Making sure customers had the very latest software updates without
intruding on their lives proved challenging. BackWeb's technology alerts
our customers to the relevant software updates they need to continue to
process quality digital photos."

Bill Jackson
General Manager, Desktop Software
Eastman Kodak Digital and Applied Imaging

Kodak's customer portal offers software updates and downloadable
software that allows Kodak's digital camera customers to maximize use of
their Kodak products, such as transferring digital photos from their
camera to PC. Kodak wanted to ensure efficient access to and delivery of
the software's valuable content to as many camera customers as possible.
Due to the passive nature of traditional portals, customers were not
always aware that new updates existed, requiring them to manually search
for content.

BackWeb enables Kodak to automatically deliver software updates and
notifications to millions of customers based on specific user
preferences. By moving from a passive approach to a proactive approach,
Kodak is maximizing the ROI of its customer portal in two key ways:

1) decreasing customer and technical support costs by minimizing the
volume in customer service inquiries, and
2) increasing sales of Kodak products and services through improved
customer satisfaction and product usage.
</quote>

Humm - I'll stick with my Canon. I don't use their software so I don't
know if it has 'helper' applications in it. The dumb-ing down of
software has it's price: loss of control and loss of privacy. Just my
opinion, of course!

I have 3 Kodak cameras, love them, but the Easyshare Software I can do
without. I find it a pain to use and slow to start. Is there any
alternate software that can be used to quickly and simply transfer the
pictures?

It might be worth starting a new thread to ask your question. Bet
somebody's used and some of these and has a opinion.

Windows Explorer should be able to do it no? Normally, a camera hooked up
via USB shows up as a drive under Explorer, so ordinary drag'n'drop
operation should be doable.

I can either copy the images to the hard drive or work with them

I think the same holds true for most other cameras.

These features are standard with Easyshare. Once you get rid of Backweb
(only needed for automatic updating of the program) it's really not that
bad.
