Not really. Find as you type was as good as highlighting in most cases,
and better in some scenarios (in cases where you wanted a specific word).
Just type on the keyboard what you want, if there is a instance it will
jump to it on the page, press F3 and it will jump to the next instance
if any.
Highlighting is better if you want to look for a phrase , and it's not
necessary that all the words are in there.
In fact, the new find as you type toolbar allows you to highlight things
too.
I personally don't think it makes sense to use the google toolbar when
firefox already has a search bar. I know you can remove the searchbar,
but I prefer access to several different types of searchs than just to
google.
Some people miss additional features of the googletoolbar, such as
googlecache, similar page, Pagerank etc, but in all cases there are
various ways (read extensions) to access these functions without using
the googletoolbar.
I used to access these via the right click context menu ,toolbar button
etc, but there is a better way
The latest method I came across was to use diggler 0.9.

It sets up a button next to the location bar, that allows you to do
searches on the current url.
By default it has googlecache and wayback/webarchive but 0.9 allows you
to define your own searches, so you can add page translation tools like
Babelfish, Googletranslate, Network related/validation tools, even
annoymity services.
It's fun to be able to surf to a website and with one click, look at how
it looked in the past (googlecache and wayback), do a whois, validate
the page, translate it, etc etc..
IE shell fans should be familar with this as well.
