News Client slrn questions
Posted by Cousin Stanley on June 19th, 2004

I've finally gotten around to setting up the slrn news client
under a Knoppix 3.2 hdd install and have a couple of questions ....

o How do you cope with multiple news servers ????

I've tried setting the environment variable ....

NNTPSERVER = "news.someServer.com"

export NNTPSERVER

slrn -f .someServer_newsrc -h "news.someServer.com"

Can the hostname be coded as a parameter in the config file ????

o How do I set up a local cache for downloaded headers/messages
so that they aren't re-downloaded each time I start slrn ????

Any clues/suggestions will be greatly appreciated ....

No.
I'm not sure I understand the question. Again, news.software.readers.

Hi ya, Cousin.
You can most likely get good help about slnr if you ask in
news.software.readers
There are a number of slrn users there that are willing to help with
all sorts of things.

Cousins Kurt & Tiger ....

Thanks for the replies ....

I am familar with the NG news.software.readers
and will check there for more info ....

My original post and Tiger's reply to it
aren't showing in the slrn message list today,
but did show up last night ....

I'm a bit confused about message/header downloading/caching
but hopefully will get straightened out ....
