Did you try Options, then choice of language. Then close and re-open?
Worked for me. Did you also download all the plug-ins?

You are using '98 ? Probably '98SE ? If so then that has happened for

Here is a recent comment in another newsgroup regarding the issue :

get it to work, so I went crawling back to Xnews. Always seem to crawl
back to xnews. Thanks a lot.

Hello TKO (?),

Very happy that you like this program. l-)
This one is really different from anything else for reading Newsgroups.
It exists in French, English and in Dutch, even all 3 together.
Best with Win XP. (concerning translation)

They have an own International Newsgroup, on the free server:
news.zoo-logique.org and the
group is called "MesNews.International" (use the uppercase where
needed)
You may post there in every language. For French they have the group
"MesNews"

We are still working on the FAQ in Dutch and English.

Have a nice day, ;-)

Alain

Hello, Tully,

Maybe something happened during install?
Why don't you try to remove the language file and then reinstall it?
It should work with XP, since I use it too, without any problem.
After install and choice of language, close program and reopen.

Problems? Try theit international newsgroup, a lot of MN users will try
to help you.
Look at my other message for the link.

Greetings, :-)

Alain

Alain,

As you well know, a number of people cannot get it to install properly
as an English program. Why not mention that ? One might suspect that
you are trying to mislead people.

In this newsgroup, if a program has something that makes it not work
for some/all people it is generally pointed out. IMO people generally
appreciate such warnings/feedback.

Here are a few comments from Tully (in this newsgroup) :
..........................................

Well this is with Windows XP I tried installing it several times to
see if I did something during the install that managed to mangle it.
Never could get it to work"
.............................................

IMO if an English version isn't available then there are going to be a
lot of English speakers who are going to be very annoyed with that
program. My part French, part English, version is certainly annoying.

Newsreaders like Free Agent, and Dialog, have no problem running
in different languages so don't bother telling us that proper
translations aren't possible on all windows systems that it
runs on.

Regards, John.

Hello again,

Sorry, but I was not very happy with your posting.
First of all, I am not trying to mislead anyone. The only thing I did
was to translate this nice program in the Dutch language. This as a
volunteer without any payment or anything. Only because I love this
newsreader, with all of the little problems it may have. So, I think it
is not fair to tell me I'm trying to mislead people...

Now, for the language problem, you did probably read the answer of
Arnaud in their own group, they have translation probs if you use Win
95/98 and they are working on it. I myself am working with XP home and
no problems at all, in English, Dutch and in French. In fact I have the
three language files working, by simply switching in options/language.

I did forward your posting to the MesNews International group and asked
them to reply to you, in this group.

Because I resided in the USA many years ago, I felt able to translate
some things in English and in my own languages, French and Dutch,
knowing it was not easy for them to write in English. That is my only
connection with MN.
Please do not forget that MN is made by a group of enthousiasts who
wanted to make something different, and Freeware...

Best regards,

Don't put words in my mouth. I didn't say that you were misleading
people. Only that it might appear that way to some people. There is a
difference.

Yes, and you know that some people are having problems YET you didn't
mention it.

Then why didn't you say eg.

I am having no problems with the translation to English but a number
of people are reporting.......etc ?

Nobody was making any comment about how easy/hard translations are.
Only that some people might like to know that a French newsreader may
NOT display properly in English.

It certainly is a good newsreader. It would be better however if I
could get it to display English only rather than partly English and
partly French.

Regards, John.

No we didn't ! yesterday we had a talk with Arnaud about the problems
of the w95/98 users and some other ones ! :-)
In fact a max. of people (in this group) use a system never less than
win2k (some people use win98SE and never tried the MN version with an
other language than the french one.
Do you understand now "the Why" ?

Ok ! Now we know correctly your problem about the english translate and
we report all of them to Arnaud with the one and mean idea to resolve
all the problems for our friends who use the win95/98.

I promess you that's not really simple..., and your help, from this
moment, will become important !

You know..., that's only some problems with Win95/98 and we will do
maximum to resolve all of them
We want to do a good newsreader like we and you like them (but also...,
if it's possible the best one !)
