I stumbled upon the ObjectDock page.Does anyone in the group use it?
<quote> ObjectDock is a free program that allows you to have a nice animated
launchbar/taskbar on your screen that reacts to your mouse when you mouse
over it. </quote>

I used it back in its early days. I liked it, but switched to Y'z Dock
because OD used so much of my system resources. I hear it's an awesome app
now and getting better all the time.
One thing I like about Y'z (which is no longer being developed) is the
no-install. I keep it on my backup drive so when I have to reformat, it's
all there and ready to go. It also reminds me which apps I have to
reinstall because all the shortcuts are still there. :-)

I actually bought OD+ just fairly recently. It looks nice but has
problems. I like Truelaunchbar and Active Tray.
Anyway, you might want to read the horror story's at news server
news.stardock.com, and join the group, stardock.objectdock. Honestly, I
think they are working VERY hard to try and make it work well, but it
looks to me like it's months away.

I prefer Mobydock:

When you right click on a folder or control panel, you get a menu of
available files. I like that!

PS I don't use it often any more. Slows down system startup, and also when
working with some graphics intensive applications. But it's fun, and lets
me boast to my Mac loving wife.

I just found out thanks to a post in another thread that you can do this by
right-clicking the Taskbar > Properties > Desktop. This works in XP, don't
know whether other OSs have it.
