- password manager
- Posted by Russellc on August 25th, 2003
Hi all
I am looking for a small easy to use password manager / login
utility that can be run as a standalone app from a removeable USB drive.
I've tried keywallet, roboform but can't get them to work on their own.
Anyone come across such a beast?

Russ ...
I use a program named PINs. It's much more than a password manager, it's
free and available at the following:
http://www.mirwoj.opus.chelm.pl/winfreeware/index.html
It is small enough to fit on a 3.5in floppy, depending on how big your
password file is. Hope this helps.

I've been using Any Password for several months and I really like it.
It's small and stable and has some very nice basic features. You can
check it out here: http://www.romanlab.com/apw/.
Also, Tucows has several freeware password managers listed:

I also use and recommend Any Password. It's one of those programs that
you just install and use, intuitive, for me any way.

I would recommend " PassKeeper " , it's very small and can be used
from a floppy or what ever ..... I use it often ....I have a shortcut
to it in my quick launce bar ,so when I'm on a webpage I can open it
and see my passwords.........it is encryped and password
protected...it doesn't enter the passwords for you though.........
I would also recommend a clipboard utility called "Hamsin
Clipboard" ,because you can put passwords in the favorite section and
just paste them .......and it will clear them from the windows
clipboard cashe
after pasteing ........

Since you're mentioning some programs that aren't freeware
(including the PC Magazine password utility that we did),
I'll mention the one from our new company, Permutations
Software. We are the former PC Magazine Utilities team, off
on our own due to budget cuts at PC Mag.
Our password manager is called PassCrypt. PassCrypt securely
stores passwords, credit cards and software registrations for
quick access while you surf. The built-in password generator
can satisfy whatever requirements a site may have. Data is
organized into folders and subfolders, with folder contents
displayed in a grid so all items can be seen at once. Grid
columns can be customized by folder. You can search, sort,
import, export, drag items between folders, and print custom
reports. Link for more info:
http://www.permutations.com/cart_form.php?UtilityID=1
We are talking to a company about doing a USB version of
PassCrypt, but that's not out yet.

So if someone spammed here then so would you ? Looks like my initial
positive impressions of you/your site were quite incorrect. Not only
do you post about non freeware in a freeware newsgroup you don't
even bother snipping irrelevant text.
A great way for you to lose potential customers.
