- PC hangs up
- Posted by Jag Chan on March 6th, 2006
While I tried to use Media Player Classic to see a video my PC simply hung
up.
I am using windows XP pro.
The Blue Screen Message which I received is:
"The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates
problem with the device itself or with the device driver programmimg the
hardware incorrectly."
After this incidence I cannot use even Windows Media Player for seeing
movies as it too hangs up.
When I use Media Player Classic for viewing snapshot or hear songs it works
perfectly.
i tried other groups also but did not get any satisfactory answer.
Any help to get out of this problem will be of great help to me.

Go into Device Manager & see if there are any glitches ( any red or
yellow marks ) & let us know.

Everything is OK in Device Manager.
Any other idea.
Thanks.

Although OT...
Update / reinstall the drivers for your graphics card, then reinstall
whatever DirectX version you have installed. If you can listen to music
and view static images without problems, I'd guess the hardware
acceleration of your display drivers is messed up.
If you don't want to dive right in and try the above, enter "Dxdiag" in
the Run dialogue and do the 2D and 3D display tests, see if your PC
remains stable.
A few additional specs about your PC setup (graphics card, driver
version, DirectX version etc) wouldn't go amiss.

You should ask an expert. I would suggest, you subscribe to a NG
related to your Hardware. E.g. if you have a ECS Elitegroup Motherboard
you could ask "alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.elitegroup", or asking some
Windows XP NG´s could help, too.
Best Regards,

P.S.: Set the variable "devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices" to 1 and see if
some preinstalled/Nonpresent Hardware is causing troubles (Arbeitsplatz
- Eigenschaften - Erweitert - Umgebungsvariablen - Systemvariablen -
Neu - and then typing "devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices" and setting to
"1")
It is too much worry for me to translate the way in English. Pardon.

Friends,
Thanks for all the responses.
I am happy to say that I don't have any more problem with my PC.
Not being a computer savvy person I don't know how it recovered.
But let me share my information of what I did FWIW.
I have Spybot SD (advanced mode) and I went to Tools > System Internals >
fix selected problems.
I think after this My computer was back to its original state.
Thanks & Regards.

as you pointed out that you are a newbie, please accept a suggestion:
try using the ">"-quoting markers instead of your "|". Because the
majority uses ">" a mixture makes reading (especially longer) threads
very uncomfortable/misunderstandable. So please configure your
news-/mailClient. THX in advance for you kind understanding.
