- pdf to word (cheap but not free)
- Posted by Malcolm Reeves on December 19th, 2003
Hi,
Someone post awhile back looking for a way to convert pdf into a word
file. This month's PC Plus has a program on its cover disk that does
this. I thought this might be of interest although it is not strictly
freeware unless you can borrow the mag from a friend :-) (yes I know
this would probably break the licensing rules - it's a joke :-)).
To a.c.f posting police please don't bother posting to tell me this is
off topic for a freeware group. You're only wasting BW since IMO it
falls into the category of offering useful (FREE) information.

Free information yes....... but of little use unless the OP that requested
it, needs it so badly that he or she will go out and either, purchase the
magazine for one program on their cover disc, or hope that someone such as
yourself, would be willing to upload a copy to a server so he/she can
download it ;o)
FTR, I detest the cover CD's of late, as most of the stuff on them, are no
longer freeware, but infact, are either, time limited, or shareware (though
I still have quite alot of "older" cover CD's that actually do contain
freeware)

There's still -- very, very occasionally -- one that's worth buying a
magazine for.
I use PhotoImpact, which I've only ever got off cover disks. The last
"upgrade" (to Version 6 -- I think they're up to Ver. 8 now) was from a
disk a couple of months ago. For me, it was worth the five pounds I
paid for the magazine.

For those in the UK there is a PDF to Word conversion tool on the cover
disk of one of the PC Magazines that just came out - check out your
newsagent :-) It's a full copy of the last version rather than the
current one but may be good. It converts to RTF format. [Yes I know
it's not freeware but this is an area where there isn't any good
freeware yet, and it's a relatively cheap solution.]

I think I just said that :-) at the start of this thread. The
magazine is PC Plus and I would have thought it was available world
wide (if you pay enough).
PC plus also have free software on their site, www.pcplus.co.uk, that
has been on their cover disks.

All this is getting a bit confused so let me sum up.
This month's PC Plus has on it Solid Converter PDF with converts PDF
to Word (well rtf). It's an old version but otherwise fully
functional AFAIK.
PC Plus also have a useful download area with free programs at
And there you can find
which converts word to pdf (but I've not tried it so I can say how
good it is).
For word to pdf you have to buy the magazine so not freeware but for
the poster who originally asked the question a cheaper solution that
full priced software if he hasn't found one yet (and if he has perhaps
he will tell the rest of us :-)).
