recover overwritten files on XP NTFS?
Posted by spoon2001 on August 23rd, 2004

Trying to recover some overwritten files ... specifically 0459.jpg through
0704.jpg.

These files contain images of documents I scanned today, and alas, the
originals are already shredded. My scanner utility automatically names each
file with a number and increments after each scan. The counter should have
been at 0955 but alas somehow it got reset to 0459, and so when I saved 246
more images to disk, they should have been written to 0955.jpg through
1200.jpg but alas they overwrote 0459.jpg through 0704.jpg. No backup for
these files. @#$%

Checked out Pricelessware ... found DriveRescue and PC Inspector
FileRecovery. Installed and ran DriveRescue but I it running extremely
slowly. Downloading PC Inspector FileRecovery now...

Any help? Are overwritten files a lost cause anyway?
