Software to turn off Power management?
Posted by howard schwartz on July 30th, 2004

I find that my, otherwise reliable, old, dos-based, Fast Lynx software tends to
disconnect during large file transfers because, I believe, the power saving
features of either windows and/or the bios software turns off the disk after
a certain amount of time with no keystrokes or mouse movements.*

In this regard, is there some kind of `keepalive' program analogous to
keepalive software for internet connections that would simulate a keystroke
every so often so your power saving features would stay happy? Alternately,
is their software to quickly turn off power saving, either in the bios, or as
part of windows software?

*Fast lynx transfers files from one computer to another over a serial or
parallel cable connection.

For Win98SE (prolly similar in other flavours

Settings>Active Desktop>Customise my desktop>

Screensaver tab

Click on Settings in lower (powersaving) section

Select "always on" powerscheme from dropdown list.

Make sure all the timings are "never" if that's what you want.

"apply" and "OK"

It's quicker to do than to describe!
