Howdy,

I'm looking for an ultrasmall PING utility that will do only a few
things:

sit in the system tray
be configurable for amount of time
allow me to choose where to ping

(doing the last two items through command line is acceptable)

I've found several that range from 250K to 2+ megs but it just seems that
there should be a tiny little one out there somewhere...

Does anyone have a recommendation?

"This program, weighing in at 8K, pings a specified host every 55
seconds, and displays the status in the System Tray. I wrote it because
I work on a system where the remote end of the connection only comes up
periodically, and then only stays up while there is activity on the
line. I can leave vsp running in the tray and wait for the green light,
knowing that the ping activity is enough to keep the link open if I'm
away from my machine when the link comes up."

It works well and is easy to use but has a pre-set ping interval of 55
seconds. Although I've looked at the code, I can't seem to get it to
hold any change made so I've written to the author to ask how it can be
changed.

Thanks for your suggestions. A couple of days after I posted this, I dug
up KeepRAS:

Does it all, and for anyone on Comcast cable with a dynamic IP connection
(which the friend I was helping out is), helps keep the line alive and
stopped all of her connection errors.
