Tool that tells age of hard disk
Posted by Charlie on January 9th, 2006

Recently, I stumbled across a hard disk tool that will show the first
time a disk was used. Good as s guide when buying a second hand hard
disk or even old disk passed off as new by unscrupulous dealers, but
for the life of me, I can't find that website or tool again.

I think it was a freeware, but I'm not sure. Anybody know of such of a
tool? Thank you.

HDDHealth?
It doesn't give the date of first fire-up but, (with supported drives),
does give a Start/Stop count and hours used, and lots more info which I
don't understand. Freeware

DiskCheckup 1.0

Size: 44 Kb
License: Freeware
Requires: Win All

An approximation of the life span of your disk drive is an invaluable
piece of information. SMART ( Self-Monitoring Analysis & Reporting
Technology ) is an interface between a computer's BIOS (basic
input/output system) and the computer hard disk, which provides
information about various 'attributes' of a drive, such as 'Power on
hours' and 'Temperature'. DiskCheckup uses this data to determine the
overall health of your drive.

Two monks were arguing about the temple flag waving in the wind.
One said, "The flag moves." The other said, "The wind moves."
They argued back and forth but could not agree.
Hui-neng, the Sixth Patriarch, said,
"Gentlemen! It is not the flag that moves. It is not the wind that
moves.
It is your mind that moves." The two monks were struck with awe.

Cheers...I was looking for this one too.

BTW...there's an epilogue to your Zen tale...

.....Later that evening Hui-neng was struck by the flag pole, which was
blown down in a uncommonly stiff breeze.
"Bugger" he thought "that's that theory up the pipe".

I thought I had the most current version installed, but maybe not. I
will check when I get home. The version I have will not detect my SATA

Works for me and have only SATA drives. Only doesn't work for those I have
in RAID 0+1 connected to a Promise adapter. All 3 others are detected and
appropriately "sensed"
