What is going on with Adobe Flash Player and web-browsers?
Posted by Phil Buchman on April 21st, 2007

Prologue: I run Win2K and currently use Firefox 2.0.0.2 as my default
broswer, even though IE 6 is in my machine. IE 6 has been totally
ignored. Any upgrades, updates, extensions, and add-ons have all been
for Firefox.

I just read an ACF post entitled "A simple browser pleeeeeease," and I
downloaded and tried both Opera 9.2 and The World Broswer which is
still in an RC stage of development. Both are fine browsers that did
the job very well and this message is not a review of either of them.

What I *-DID-* notice was that Flash videos would NOT play on both
Opera and The World, until I returned to Adobe's website and
reinstalled the very same Flash Player that I already have. The same
Flash Player, same version of Flash Player, the same software---but the
new browsers didn't find it in my machine when they needed it the first
time.

Does anyone know why Flash Player isn't making itself available to new
browsers that are loaded into the machine?

Thanks!

I find that some websites can't find it while others can - all from the same
browser (Firefox 1.5.0.11).

One example is http://veryfunnyads.com/ . It says that Flash Player isn't
installed, and the site won't open for me (this began a few months ago).
The Adobe website says that the latest version of Flash is installed and
working. Most sites display Flash just fine.

Hi Michael,

I haven't found a website that said I didn't have Flash Player. So far
I've taken different browsers to the same site and the new browsers
couldn't find the player when they needed it, but the old browser found
it just fine and played the flash videos from the website.

For me, the issue is in the browsers and not the website---but it looks
like you've found a website that has an issue in finding the player!

Because the installer of Flash Player detects which browsers you do
have installed, and installs plugins in their corresponding plugins
