Acronis True Image 7 won't run
Posted by L Mehl on December 23rd, 2003

I installed the 7.0 (upgrade). It will not run, nor can I uninstall it
using Add/Remove programs, or the True Image Uninstall utility.

Tech support tells me they are "working on the problem" (for 10 days) and
says no one else has encountered it.

Have others had this problem and fixed it? If so, can you tell me what
worked for you?

Thanks for any help.

I received another message ... they are still "working on it".

They say I am the only one to have had this problem, so it is probably OK
for you to upgrade (JOKING!).

The only reason I can think of that I cannot run v 7 or un-install it (so I
can re-install) is that the installation of the upgrade from 6 to 7 failed.

Do you suspect there is something I might have done during the upgrade to
screw it up?

Let me re-phrase. Your original post is kinda like calling up your
mechanic and saying that you can't drive to the local 7-11. Based on
that info, I doubt he'll be able to pinpoint your problem.

What are the symptoms? Do you get an error message? Nothing happens?
Computer crashes?

I see what you mean.

Symptoms -- none

Error message - none

Nothing happens

Computer does not crash

I upgraded from 6 to 7 specifically for scheduled backup.

It works on my office computer but on my home computer the scheduled
back up starts and stops after a few minutes. In the right window there
were many error messages. I am back to version 6 which works perfectly
for me.

If there are no symptoms, I'd be doubtful whether Acronis can fix your
problem. When you attempt to launch the application, does it appear
anywhere in the Task Manager? (Either stays there, or just appears
temporarily). What about the Event viewer? (Application or System
log). Perhaps try launching the EXE manually from either a command
prompt or windows explorer.

Failing all of the above, my best advice is to remove the software
completely. If the Add/Remove Programs module doesn't work, nor any
uninstaller that may come with the software, you've got some work cut
out for you. Back up your system first. Delete the True Image
directory from Program Files, and then go into the Registry and remove
any key that contains "Acronis", for example.

Reboot and install clean.

Farouk --

Have you written Acronis about the problem?

How did you get back to version 6? I am not able to uninstall vers 7, so
that I can relaod vers 6.

On 12/27, Acronis pointed me to a download link, same file name as before,
holding build #582.

It worked.

Thanks for listening.

it the past couple of weeks. The scheduler and incremental backup features
work great. I have it doing a full image every week, and then incremental
images every day.

I've been using TrueImage for a while, after Drive Image wouldn't run under
XP and DI's Tech Support was no help at all. TrueImage now blows the doors
off DI. It's also great for deploying or imaging a replacement HD. After
my WD 100 gig recently starting clicking and locking up, I got a Samsung 160
gig as a replacement. WD's image utility took 12+ hours to clone the
drive, and then some amount of the data was corrupted. TrueImage did the
same thing, perfectly, in a little more than an hour.
