Some of my IE favorites have very long file names (eg because the names
weren't edited when the fav was created). This seems to be OK for Windows XP
but if I try and backup my Favs folder to an ISO standard DVD it causes a
problem.
I know I can get round it by burning a non-ISO format DVD but what are the
implications of this? I guess what I'm asking is... Is it likely that
different versions of Windows (XP and onwards - I don't care about earlier)
might have a problem reading the DVD?
I think some of the files also have problem characters in them. Is there a
nice program somewhere that can check and sanitise a file structure? I've
got far too many files and folders to do it by editing each one
individually.

Why are you using ISO? Unless you want to read it on NT4, use UDF 1.02.
Why are burning apps not defaulting to UDF today? Anyone can read them.

Nope, the capabilitys increase, not reduce in those areas.
The only real possible downside is that you might find
that some free app cant handle the more modern formats.
Dunno, havent bothered myself. I just
use a format that supports anything.
