- IBM X series 335 server - how to upgrade hard drive space
- Posted by davidw@dwynn.demon.co.uk on April 3rd, 2006
We urgently need to upgrade our IBM server model 335 hard drives as
they are woefully small (36gb). It has 2 x 36gb ULTRA320 hot swap
drives which are being mirrored. Is there a straightforward upgrade
path? It is running Server 2003 standard edition. I would like to avoid
a complete reinstall if possible. Anyone have any clever ideas?

This might work:
1. Get larger disks.
2. Use Gohst/PartitionMagic/whatever windows imaging software
to copy the installation and to enlarge the existing partitions/
create new partitions. You may be able to do this in-place
(remove one old drive, add new drive, do not add it to the RAID1
set) or you can do it via image-file or in another computer.
You can also do this via backup mechanism.
I would advise that you remove one of the old drives before doing
this, since it gives you a means to go back to the old installation
if anything goes wrong.
