Does anyone have an opinion on the Maxtor F01H500 OneTouch III 500 GB
USB external drive.
It will be used with 4 WD 400 GB external drives that I already have.
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Maxtor external drives are by now famous in this newsgroup for
failing prematurely from overheating. I wouldadvise you to
stay away from them.

And if Arnie Babblemouth repeats it often enough (which he will,
without a doubt, to all the idiots that ask questions that they al-
ready know the answer about) it automatically becomes true, no?
Thanks for allowing Babblehead to babble.

None of the Maxtor external drives have adequate cooling for the drive.
That means they die like flys.

You are welcome. Maybe if more people read this newsgroup, Maxtor
would by now have a decent product. It never ceases to amaze me
the kinf of broken products some vendors get away with....

My experience and opinion of Maxtor OneTouch drives is mirrored by
various responses to this thread.
However, coupling them with Western Digital drives is *really* asking
for trouble.
You'd be better off purchasing a generic box **with cooling fans** (and
proper fans - not 40mm or 60mm jokes) and doing it all yourself.
